Prime Minister said: He Relied on Civil Servants for Oversight in Bezeq Case
Testifying at his corruption trial on Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he signs dozens of documents of regulatory approval every week and relies on civil servants and legal officials for oversight before the requests reach his desk.
Questions focused on the “Bezeq Affair.” Netanyahu — as Communications Minister — is accused of giving regulatory benefits to the Bezeq telecom giant. In return, Bezeq’s majority shareholder, Shaul Elovitch, gave Netanyahu favorable coverage on the Walla News site, which he owns.
Netanyahu said he did not “remember one incident in which I didn’t sign,” because “if it didn’t pass one of those stages, it wouldn’t get to me.”
