The government of Israel approved a quota on foreign workers for infrastructure work. This is to fill a need caused by the “Iron Swords” war against the Hamas terrorist group in Gaza.
Since the October 7 massacre, the employment of approximately 70,000 Palestinian workers in the construction industry in Israel, including workers employed in infrastructure construction, was terminated.
“The economy is in great distress, which leads to an increase in the cost of living and a slowdown in central infrastructure projects, which necessitates bringing in foreign workers and disconnecting from the Palestinian workers,” said the Ministry of Transportation.
The foreign workers who will be recruited to work in infrastructure construction will be professionally examined by the Ministry of Transportation and Road Safety before their arrival in Israel. According to the decision, a control mechanism will be activated to ensure the arrival of skilled workers in the infrastructure professions.
