Iranian political analyst Rouhollah Modabber called for a much deeper military alliance with Moscow, arguing that Russia should be granted direct military access to Iranian territory.
In a June 14 interview, Modabber described Russia as Iran’s strategic partner and claimed Moscow had helped Tehran resist international pressure, block anti-Iran resolutions at the United Nations and bypass Western sanctions.
He also said Russia maintained supply routes to Iran while Israeli and American forces were attacking ports on the Caspian Sea, sending assistance “ship after ship.”
Modabber proposed a mutual-security treaty allowing Russian forces to be stationed inside Iran. Citing Belarus as a model, he said Russia should also be permitted to deploy nuclear weapons on Iranian soil.
