Photos posted on X by a pro-Hezbollah account revealed a military map displaying the group’s target bank inside Israel, sparking questions about whether this was a rare “security mistake” or a calculated move.
The images showed slain Hezbollah commanders Ali Karaki and Ibrahim Aqil standing before a military map. Another photo in the same post depicted the two with additional commanders. The account claimed the pictures were taken at a facility struck by Israel on September 20, 2024, in which Aqil and other senior Radwan Unit members were killed.
Lebanese users abroad quickly analyzed the map, publishing coordinates of the numbered targets. They said the map included Iron Dome launchers, military sites, and fuel depots.
At the same time, another widely circulated photo showed former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah presiding over an operations room meeting—an unusual breach of the group’s secrecy norms. Until now, Hezbollah’s military media vetted images before release. Publishing such sensitive photos on private accounts is unprecedented.
