Israeli journalist Amit Segal has issued a sharp rebuttal to comments made by Brett McGurk, a senior adviser to former US President Joe Biden, accusing him of distorting the record on US-Israel security relations during the war.
McGurk reacted on Tuesday to remarks by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said that a US weapons embargo was among the factors that led to IDF casualties. McGurk dismissed the claim, calling it “categorically false,” and argued that Biden left office with Israel in a stronger strategic position.
According to McGurk, the Biden administration delivered a Gaza ceasefire with hostages returning home, a ceasefire in Lebanon with Hezbollah defeated, and an Iran weakened to its lowest point since 1979. He claimed this was achieved through the deployment of US military forces and a coordinated response that destroyed Iran’s air defenses, adding that Biden’s commitment to Israel’s security and US military assistance was “unwavering throughout the crisis.”
In response, journalist Amit Segal published a detailed fact-check, directly challenging McGurk’s assertions. Segal stated that the Biden administration did impose a partial arms embargo on Israel, including halting the transfer of armored bulldozers that Israel had already paid for.
