The Jordanian army announced that one of its officers had been killed and three soldiers wounded in a collision with a squad of drug smugglers at dawn, Sunday, in one of the northeastern border areas.

The official news agency, Petra, reported, citing an official source of the Jordanian army, that Captain Muhammad Yassin Musa al-Khudiirat was killed and three soldiers wounded near the Syrian border.

The source explained that the confrontation took place at four in the morning local time, after a group of smugglers opened fire at a Jordanian Border Police force.

The source noted that after examining the area of the incident, large quantities of drugs were seized and transferred to the competent authorities.

It should be noted that the Jordanian authorities used to announce from time to time that they had thwarted the smuggling of large quantities of drugs that reached the country through the Syrian border.

It should be noted that Hezbollah is working in this area in an effort to move drug shipments from Lebanon and Syria to the Gulf states and Saudi Arabia through the use of Jordanian land.

The massive drug traffic through southern Syria is causing the entire region to sink into utter chaos controlled by the various drug traffickers and their sponsors from Hezbollah, senior Syrian government officials and elements of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards involved working to generate regular income for them and the militias they use to control the territory.

Israel and the United States closely monitor drug movements throughout the region and assist the Jordanian authorities with operational information that helps them thwart this activity.
