NEWSRAEL: This is important since many in Washington, among them "Maga" Republicans, seem to think that MEK is leading the opposition. This is false! MEK has very little support inside Iran.
In an article published by Prof. Yadollah Karimi Pour, a geopolitical expert from Kharazmi University in Tehran, he surveyed all opposition currents and concluded: The only group that can currently be called a "real opposition" is the supporters of Reza Pahlavi.
According to him, none of the other currents—secular republicans, reformists, ethnic nationalists, communists, or MEK members—enjoy broad popular support, clear leadership, or real political influence.
Supporters of Pahlavi, on the other hand, benefit from a clear identity, public nostalgia, and external support, even if far from decisive.
