The Hamimim military airport in the Syrian coastal city of Latakia, which is under Russian control, prevented the landing of an Iranian plane belonging to Mahan Air after it had already entered Syrian airspace.
The Syrian news website “Sawt al-Asimah” quoted private sources as saying that the plane with the flight code “IRM174” returned to Tehran after circling the airspace of the Damascus countryside in the Al-Saba Bayar area.
The sources estimated that the plane was loaded with weapons for Hezbollah and Iranian militias in Syria, and noted that there are Israeli threats against the international airports of Damascus and Aleppo, similar to those received against Beirut airport, according to which no Iranian plane will land at those airports.
The sources noted that the planes that carried the Iranian delegations that visited Syria during the past week were coordinated and approved directly by Israel through intermediaries, in view of the negotiation issues that were conveyed through the advisor to the Iranian Supreme Leader and the Minister of Defense who visited Damascus last week.
