Assessment: Israeli Unit 8200’s cyber division coordinated the timing of high-profile assassinations in Iran
Recent Israeli airstrikes in Tehran have revealed a deep intelligence breach within Iran, leading to the targeted killings of senior Iranian military officials and nuclear scientists in their homes and workplaces. According to Israeli security sources, the Mossad conducted covert sabotage operations against strategic Iranian sites, including long-range missile bases and advanced air defense systems.
A senior Israeli military source confirmed that the strikes were directed at the Iranian Armed Forces' General Staff, including Chief of Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri, and several top scientists linked to Iran’s nuclear program. There are strong indications that these individuals were killed in the attacks.
The Israeli military has continued a wave of intensive strikes deep inside Iranian territory, focusing on vital infrastructure tied directly to Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. Targets included ballistic missile assembly facilities, the Natanz nuclear site, military bases, air defense batteries, radar installations, and early warning systems.
Several of the strikes were carried out against residential buildings in Tehran, where key leaders and scientists involved in sensitive programs lived—highlighting the scope of the cyber breach that preceded the operation.
Arab analysts suggest that Israel’s offensive cyber unit, widely believed to be Unit 8200, played a key role in timing the assassinations, ensuring all targets were present at the moment of the strike. One senior IDF officer described working with the unit as “anything but simple,” hinting at the complexity and precision of its cyber operations.
