Senior Israeli security officials assess that Gen. Ahmad Vahidi, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, is steadily consolidating his position at the top of Iran’s power structure and emerging as a central figure in decision-making in Tehran.
According to these assessments, the recent war and the upheaval within Iran’s security leadership significantly boosted Vahidi’s standing. Heavy blows to the IRGC command echelon accelerated internal reorganization and increased the influence of veteran security figures.
Vahidi is considered one of the most experienced and influential figures in Iran’s defense establishment.
Israeli assessments say he began his career in the early years of the Islamic Republic, when the regime’s security doctrine was being shaped after the 1979 revolution. During the Iran-Iraq War, he held field and intelligence roles before rising through a series of senior command positions. Over the years, he gained a reputation as a powerful figure in regional operations and Iran’s projection of force beyond its borders.
