Turkey boasts of growth figures regarding foreign investments so far this year but this is a "half truth".
Tracking the data shows that the value of the money leaving Turkey for investment abroad is increasing.
For example, the real estate sector, which is considered attractive to investors in Turkey. In the first nine months of the year, Turks poured 1.53 billion dollars into real estate investments abroad compared to 1.33 billion in the same period last year.
Foreign investments in Turkish real estate this year amounted to 2.19 billion dollars. In other words, the outgoing investments make up about 70% of the investments entering the real estate market this year compared to about 45% last year.
What does the data mean? Turkey's wealthy and those who can afford it are looking for property abroad, where they feel that the environment is safer and the education options are better. Also, due to visa difficulties, investing in real estate for Turkey's wealthy can pave the way to residency or citizenship status.
