Iran’s latest assault near the Strait of Hormuz is being described by Washington as a gross violation of its memorandum with the United States.
The United States shot down several Iranian drones after the IRGC targeted a third commercial vessel near the Strait of Hormuz, according to a US official.
Iran reportedly fired on three commercial ships in Omani territorial waters. Two tankers were hit in separate incidents, while a Qatari tanker was also targeted. No casualties were reported, but the attacks caused oil prices to rise and renewed fears over freedom of navigation through one of the world’s most important energy routes.
Qatar held Iran fully responsible for what it called an unacceptable attack on international shipping and global energy supplies. The Gulf Cooperation Council condemned the assault as a dangerous escalation and called for a firm international response.
