There is no hurry to rebuild Gaza - "The check is in the mail"

Palestinians are disappointed that the process of rebuilding the Gaza Strip has not really begun. Majdi a-Salej, the local government minister, stated that his office had contacted Arab and European donors regarding rehabilitation projects but so far "not a single dollar has been received".

The head of the Gaza Association of Municipalities, Yahya al-Saraj, also said that none of the donors fulfilled his commitment to rehabilitate the buildings that were destroyed during Operation Wall Guard, which raises concerns about what is expected ahead of the winter season. However, al-Saragh added that there are promises to raise funds for rehabilitation towards the middle of the current month although "things are not clear at the moment", he said. Al-Saragh explained that all the infrastructure repair work carried out so far has been locally funded and is temporary and requires thorough work when the money comes in.
