๐ Rare Seal from King David’s Period Revealed in Dirt from the Temple Mount ๐
A 3000-year-old seal was found in the City of David Sifting Project at Emek Tzurim. This seal dates to King David’s time!
Even more wondrous is the dirt that it was found in was from the Temple Mount! ๐๏ธ
This sifting project at the time was managed by Dr. Gabriel Barkay and Tzachi Dvira, who dealt with filtering dirt that was illegally removed from the Temple Mount during the devastating excavations of the Waqf in the late 1990s.
๐ต The seal is made of brown limestone and is 16 millimeters high. On the bottom figures of two animals were engraved on top of each other, perhaps a beast of prey and its prey. The seal was pierced so that it could be hung on a thread.
According to Dr. Barkay, "parallels to this seal have been discovered throughout the country, but this is the first time such a seal has been exposed in Jerusalem.”
๐ The decorations are similar to the 11th-10th centuries BCE, which are the days of the Jebusites, the days of the conquest of Jerusalem by David, and the construction of the Temple by his son Solomon.
