The United States is stepping up pressure on Cuba while signaling openness to a negotiated path forward, according to new details from talks between officials from both countries.
A delegation from the US State Department met with a Cuban government representative on April 10, presenting a set of proposals aimed at reaching a broader agreement.
Among the key demands: allowing the use of Starlink internet terminals across Cuba, compensating American citizens and companies for assets seized after the 1959 revolution, releasing political prisoners, and expanding political freedoms.
US officials also raised concerns over the growing influence of foreign powers on the island, warning that Cuba’s leadership faces a limited window to implement meaningful reforms before conditions “deteriorate irreversibly.”
