Israeli assessments suggest the terrorists killed in the buffer zone over the weekend may have been operated by Iran, as Tehran and Hezbollah try to rebuild cells near Israel’s border.
The reality in southern Syria is becoming more dangerous. According to the report, Israeli officials believe the terrorists eliminated over the weekend in the buffer zone were not just a local armed group, but may have been operated by Iran.
The area remains unstable because the regime of Ahmed al-Sharaa still does not fully control southern Syria, especially around Daraa, Quneitra and the Druze village of Hader. That vacuum allows Iran and Hezbollah to try to activate dormant cells, move weapons and rebuild a terror infrastructure close to Israel’s border.
The report also warned that some of these cells may be preparing attacks toward Israeli communities or IDF positions in the area. The goal is not only to hurt Israel, but also to drag the Syrian regime into a confrontation it may not fully control.
