Israel condemns the massacre in Bucha; Lapid: "This is a War Crime"

Foreign Minister Yair Lapid today (Sunday) condemned the massacre in the town of Bucha, near Kiev. "It is impossible to remain indifferent in the face of the horrific images that were revealed after the Russian army left the place," Lapid wrote on his Twitter account. "Intentional harm to the civilian population is a war crime and I strongly condemn it."

An Israeli official told Walla! that in Israel, they waited a few hours until the condemnation of the massacre in Bucha was published to make sure that the pictures posted on social media in the morning were authentic and not part of an experience of psychological warfare.

The State Department has contacted several Western countries to see if there is evidence that a massacre has taken place and that the photos are authentic.

The answer that came from several Western countries was positive with the addition of an estimate that in the coming days similar cases will be discovered in other regions of Ukraine from which the Russian forces withdrew.

The senior Israeli official stated that the process took several hours and therefore it took time for the announcement of the Israeli condemnation to be published.

Ukraine's Attorney General Irina Vendiktova told a state television channel that prosecutors investigating possible war crimes by Russia have found 410 bodies in the town of Bocha, near Kiev. The plaintiff further stated that out of the same bodies, 140 were examined.

Russia, for its part, denies Ukraine's allegations that it killed civilians in Bocha. The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that photographs and photographs showing bodies were "another Ukrainian provocation." The ministry added that all Russian army units had left the town on March 30.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zalansky said that what is happening now in the country is "genocide". The president further added that anyone responsible for Russia's crimes in Ukraine should be punished, including those who gave orders.

Britain and Germany have argued that Russia's attacks on civilians in Ukraine must be investigated as war crimes.
