The U.S., influential Western countries and most Arab nations have said that there will no funds for reconstructing the Israeli-destroyed areas in Lebanon amid the presence of “arms outside the state’s arms,” in reference to Hezbollah’s weapons, a media report said.
NAHARNET (Lebanon) -- Officials in Lebanon, topped by President Joseph Aoun, have heard from several foreign and Arab sides that the international and Arab communities would offer reconstruction and economic aid exclusively to “a strong and capable Lebanese state that extends its authority across Lebanon,” the Nidaa al-Watan newspaper added.
The World Bank has estimated Lebanon's recovery and reconstruction costs at $11 billion following the war between Israel and Hezbollah, which ended with a ceasefire last November.
"Reconstruction and recovery needs following the conflict that affected Lebanon are estimated at US$11 billion," the World Bank said in a report assessing damage and losses from October 8 to December 20, 2024.
