Highly placed Iranian sources claim Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf has effectively taken control of the government and is now exercising powers once held by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
According to the sources, Iran currently has no functioning supreme leader. They claim Qalibaf is dominating parliament, preventing regular sessions and blocking senior regime figures who oppose the emerging agreement from interfering in the process.
The Iranian parliament has reportedly not convened normally for more than three months, despite the war, the regime’s internal crisis and the major negotiations now shaping Iran’s future.
The sources also claim Iran’s state broadcasting authority is being used behind the scenes to calm hardline opponents of the agreement and prepare the regime to accept what critics describe as a “poisoned chalice.”
