The U.S. State Department has announced a reward of up to $10 million for information exposing Hezbollah’s financial networks in South America—specifically in the tri-border region of Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay.
A post on the official account of the State Department's “Rewards for Justice” program on X (formerly Twitter) emphasized that Hezbollah is expanding its financial operations far beyond its Lebanese base. The message called on anyone with knowledge of money laundering or illicit fund transfers to come forward, offering not only financial rewards but also possible relocation to safety.
The backdrop: Hezbollah’s smuggling networks in South America—especially drug trafficking—generate a major portion of its revenue. These funds help sustain both its military operations and its social services within Lebanon’s Shiite communities.
Recently, Hezbollah reportedly halted compensation payments to members whose homes were damaged during fighting with Israel. The reason: a drying up of funds due to Iran stopping its financial support and the group’s losses in manpower and resources during its ongoing conflict with Israel.
