The Israel Police conducted 227 special activities in its ongoing “Green Safe Route” operation to fight against violent crime in Israel’s Arab communities.
The activities were carried out by the police and other enforcement bodies and various government ministries.
For example, about 300 vehicles, including luxury vehicles, were seized as part of the operation. The seized vehicles were allegedly obtained as a result of criminal activity.
In 2023, the Israel Police seized a total of 1.4 billion Shekels ($390 million) in properties, an increase of 40% compared to the previous year.
In 2023, 2,586 arrests were made as part of the operation and 2,119 searches were carried out.
Since the beginning of the year, there have been about 575 seizures of illegal weapons, including 263 pistols, 94 assault rifles, 101 non-standard weapons, 226 imitation weapons, 392 grenades, 14 hunting rifles, 178 explosive charges, 121 fireworks devices (they can be used as bombs), and 41,413 different types of ammunition.
“The fight against crime and violence in the Arab street is a central goal of the Israel Police and to achieve it we invest many resources and combine arms with other enforcement bodies and government ministries,” said Deputy Commissioner Shmuel Sharvit of the Police Intelligence Division. “The data we are publishing today indicates a determined and uncompromising activity on the part of the Israel Police, which includes the prevention of arms smuggling from the country’s borders, the prevention of planned murders, the seizure of many illegal weapons, arrests of crime targets, and an uncompromising fight against economic crime.”
