Fighting has broken out in southern Syria between the army units loyal to Russia and the units loyal to Iran
On Saturday, armed clashes broke out between two armed units affiliated with the Syrian regime forces in the vicinity of the town of Al-Masifra - Al-Masifra, east of Daraa.
On the news website of the Free Syrian Army - "the umbrella organization of the Ahrar Khoran units" it was reported that an exchange took place at the time using machine guns between a group of fighters from the 8th Brigade and security personnel from the intelligence wing of the Air Force under the command of Muhammad Imad al-Kurdi, during which several fighters were injured (the number was not specified ).
He added that the reason behind the clashes is that the group of Al-Khordi fighters ambushed a unit from the 8th Brigade in the vicinity of the town, without giving further details.
It should be noted that the 8th Brigade was established under the command of "Ahmed al-Oda", the former commander of the "Shabab al-Suna Forces" militia of the Free Syrian Army, after the Assad regime took control of the Daraa Governorate in July 2018, and is subordinate to the 5th Brigade funded and trained by Russia, and then tried to submit to the Syrian military intelligence at the end of 2021, and they number about 1,600 fighters, most of them former members of the militias of the Free Syrian Army.
It should be noted that Russia brought the 8th Brigade to southern Syria to keep away the Iranian militias that tried to establish themselves near the border of Israel, and this was following their promise to Israel to keep the Iranian forces away about 80 km from the border of the Golan, which never happened.
Recently, the soldiers of the 8th Brigade set up about 10 observation posts in front of the Israeli Golan border. It is not clear if the information they collect through their observation posts is shared with the Iranian command in Syria.
In light of the above report, it can be estimated that the Iranian command in Syria is trying to take control of the "Russian" unit and integrate it into hostile activity against Israel and Jordan.
Will Russia, which receives weapons and ammunition from Iran, sacrifice this unit for the benefit of its great interest, to continue waging an effective war in Ukraine?
Will they reconcile with The Iranian effort and they will abandon the Syrian military unit they established, which will increase the pressure on Israel to act against the oppressive Iranian military presence on its Golan border?
