Hamas-linked sources told the London-based newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat that Mohammed Oudeh has been appointed as the new commander of Hamas’s military wing following the elimination of Izz al-Din al-Haddad over the weekend.
According to the report, Oudeh served as head of military intelligence within Hamas’s military wing during the October 7 massacre against Israel.
The report further states that after the elimination of Mohammed Sinwar, Hamas leadership initially offered Oudeh the top military command position, but he reportedly refused at the time. He has now agreed to assume leadership of the organization’s armed wing amid the ongoing war and continued Israeli targeting of senior Hamas commanders.
The appointment comes as Hamas attempts to rebuild its military command structure following repeated Israeli eliminations of top field commanders and senior operational leaders throughout Gaza.
