Qatar-India relations have recently been clouded by the "espionage" affair also connected to Israel.
According to reports from the last few days, Qatar has decided to put eight retired Indian Navy personnel on the charge of spying for Qatar's secret plan to obtain advanced Italian-made submarines.
The uniqueness of the submarines is that they are difficult to locate by the intelligence agencies of other countries.
The legal proceedings against the eight began on March 29 and the next hearing is scheduled for May.
The affair began after about three years ago an Italian shipbuilding company signed a memorandum of understanding with Qatar to manufacture the submarines as part of a wider project that includes the establishment of a naval base and the maintenance of Qatar's military fleet. The Qataris arrested the Indians last year and claimed that information about their submarine program had been passed to Israel.
India insists that the eight were not involved in the matter. However, Qatar's intelligence agency claims to have intercepted electronic communications indicating that Indian Navy officers employed by Qatar as advisers to the navy were spying on the submarine program.
