In Lebanon, it is difficult to digest that the gas drilling in block 9 ended without the discovery of a commercial reservoir.
After the great noise of the maritime border agreement with Israel, Lebanon hoped to become a significant gas player in the gas market in the eastern basin of the Mediterranean Sea, but the hopes were dashed.
Despite this, they did not lose hope in Lebanon. Interim Energy Minister Walid Fayed stated yesterday that he would like the consortium led by France's Total to conduct a second drilling in block 9.
According to the minister, the consortium is committed to a second drilling although no timetable has been set. Fayad wants the second drilling to be done early next year. It is doubtful if this will happen in view of the disappointing results and the regional tensions.
