Jewish organizations in the United States and abroad voiced strong support for Israel as it launched Operation Rising Lion against Iran.
With the American Jewish community reeling from antisemitic violence in DC and Boulder, Israel’s preemptive strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities on Friday was welcomed with statements of support.
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee wrote that “Israel’s action to cripple Iran’s nuclear program is a service to all civilized people.”
“America must stand with our ally at this critical moment as it takes action to protect its families and the world from a nuclear-capable Iran,” AIPAC added.
The American Jewish Committee (AJC) announced: “We stand with Israel in its right to self-defense and anticipation of any Iranian military or proxy response” in a statement on X.
The lobbying group declared that Congress should ensure that Israel has the resources and support to continue battling their enemies.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) declared that Israel had a right to defend itself, particularly against Iran, which has sworn to destroy Israel and has violated UN nuclear proliferation treaties multiple times.
“A nuclear-armed Iran would pose an existential and grave threat to Israel, the region, the global community, and as demonstrated on many occasions, a lethal threat to Diaspora Jewry,” the ADL wrote on X.
The European Jewish Congress expressed its full support for Israel, adding, “No people and no country can stand by when its sworn enemy is not only pledged to destroy its very existence but also possesses the nuclear capacity to carry out its threat.”
On social media, Britain’s Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis wrote, “As Israel confronts her enemies yet again, we turn Heavenwards with prayers for peace and security: Behold the Guardian of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps!” (Psalm 121),” he posted on X, adding “Am Yisrael Chai (The People of Israel Lives).”
