Today, Wednesday, April 10, the European Parliament will decide on changes to immigration and asylum laws in the European Union; One of the proposed changes is sending immigrants and asylum seekers to third countries outside the European Union.
The European Union seeks to implement this program while the various EU countries have already concluded agreements with several countries for the transfer of migrants and asylum seekers or are conducting negotiations to complete such agreements.
For example, Italy, a member of the European Union, signed an agreement on this matter with Albania, which is not a member of this union; In addition, Denmark and Austria also expressed their desire to imitate the British Rwanda plan.
The agreement between Italy and Albania, signed in November, provides for the transfer of immigrants and asylum seekers to detention centers in Albania; The budget of the mentioned centers is paid by Italy.
Despite this, Brussels claims that this plan is different from the British Rwanda plan to transfer immigrants and asylum seekers to the African country; Because in transferring immigrants and asylum seekers from the European Union to third countries, the "clause of necessity in communication between the immigrant and the asylum seeker with the third country" is emphasized.
Immigration and asylum experts believe that the implementation of this program by the European Union, like what happened to England, is not possible, because such an action is not compatible with the current and latest regulations and the changes that are about to be made.
This idea has already been opposed by the European Court of Human Rights.
Charities and groups active in the field of migrant rights are strongly criticizing the idea of amending the current EU laws and condemning the plan of EU countries to send migrants to so-called safe countries.
