The US is slowly giving in to Gulf pressure and easing sanctions on the Syrian regime. Syrian Finance Minister Muhammad Barnia said today that his country has received its first grant from Qatar, which is intended for the payment of salaries for public sector employees.
Yesterday, Barnia said that Qatar will transfer $29 million per month over the next three months to Syria (a total of $87 million) to finance the payment of salaries for public sector employees in Syria. This agreement has the option of being extended beyond three months. According to Barnia, the transfer of funds from Qatar came with the consent of the Trump administration.
According to Barnia, the Americans conditioned their agreement on the fact that the Qatari money would not finance the personnel of the Syrian Ministry of Interior and Defense, that is, all those militants who serve in the security apparatus of the jihadist Syrian regime. It was not stated what monitoring mechanism was established to ensure that the money does not go to those people in the mechanisms (who are actually jihadist terrorists).
The bottom line is that no matter how you look at it, Qatar, with the consent of the US, is working to stabilize the jihadist regime of Julani in Syria.
