Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf has reportedly been forcibly placed under house arrest by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. If confirmed, he would join President Masoud Pezeshkian, who was reportedly confined to his residence last week.

The reports suggest that the IRGC is tightening its control over Iran’s governing institutions and targeting senior officials involved in contacts with Washington. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who has pressed for an agreement, could be next. Attention is also focused on Iran’s interior minister, currently in Pakistan and reportedly carrying a message from Pezeshkian to the Americans.

The house-arrest claim has not yet been independently confirmed. However, the growing sidelining of Iran’s civilian leadership strengthens suspicions that the Revolutionary Guards have effectively carried out a military takeover behind the regime’s formal institutions.
