For the first time ever, Denmark’s intelligence community has formally described the United States as a potential threat in its annual assessment.
According to the latest threat evaluation published by Denmark’s Defense Intelligence Service (DDIS), Washington’s growing interest in Greenland—an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark—is a source of rising concern.
The report links this interest to intensifying great-power competition in the Arctic region, where strategic, military, and economic stakes are rapidly increasing.
The assessment comes in the wake of repeated statements by Donald Trump, who has openly expressed a desire for the US to take control of Greenland. These remarks have already sparked diplomatic friction between Copenhagen and Washington. Notably, Trump has also refused to rule out the use of military force as a means of securing control over the Arctic island.
