The controversial Egyptian journalist Ibrahim Issa has been at the center of a media storm for the past day after claiming on his show that the story of the Prophet Muhammad's nocturnal journey and his ascension to heaven (al-Isra'a and al-Mi'araj) at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Temple Mount is a never-before-seen story.
This is an event that is considered a consensus for Muslims and is even celebrated every year. His remarks caused a stir on social media and the al-Azhar halakhic institution in Egypt was called into question.
A statement from the esteemed religious institution stated that the journey of the Prophet Muhammad and his ascension to heaven had taken place with certainty and should not be denied under any circumstances.
He also sharply attacked the Egyptian journalist and said that he markets extremist ideas and opinions to create crises and provoke civil wars.
At the same time the Supreme Council for Media Regulation in Egypt began to examine the issue towards the possibility of taking legal action against the Egyptian journalist.
