A major division emerged inside President Donald Trump’s administration over whether to accept the developing agreement with Iran, according to Axios reporter Barak Ravid.
Vice President JD Vance, presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump adviser Jared Kushner reportedly supported accepting the deal. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth were said to have opposed it, favoring a tougher position toward Tehran.
The reported split reflects two competing approaches that have shaped the administration’s Iran policy.
Vance, Witkoff and Kushner led the diplomatic effort and argued that an agreement could end the war, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Vance has publicly said the deal could transform the Middle East—provided Iran complies with its commitments.
