Egypt is issuing empty threats about canceling the Camp David Accords. Analysts say this is political theater, not a real intention.
The Hezbollah-linked daily Al-Akhbar reported that President el-Sisi and Emir Tamim discussed reviving mediation in Gaza after Israel’s strike in Doha. Cairo wants U.S. guarantees to prevent similar attacks and softer rhetoric toward Israel.
Egypt also seeks broader mediation to reach a real ceasefire under U.S. pressure and a clear timetable. But sources admit Cairo has no plan to cancel Camp David, knowing the risks with Washington.
Officials said el-Sisi’s threats are a calculated move to push Israel to allow more aid into Gaza. They also want to block forced migration plans that would remove Gazans through border crossings.
