The President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, sharply criticized Spain’s left-wing government during a heated parliamentary session, accusing political opponents of ignoring the human rights reality in countries like Iran.
During the debate, Ayuso challenged lawmakers who criticize Western policies toward the Iranian regime. In a fiery remark aimed at the left, she said critics should try experiencing life under the regime themselves.
“I encourage you to go to Tehran alone and drunk,” she said in parliament, adding that they should “take your gay friends with you and see how long it takes before they hang them from cranes.”
Ayuso argued that many Western politicians speak about peace and diplomacy while overlooking what she described as severe repression in Iran, particularly against women and LGBTQ individuals. Her comments were intended to highlight the contrast between democratic freedoms in Europe and the punishments imposed under the Iranian regime.
