An official at the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) revealed that thousands of Syrian children were forced to enter workplaces and leave school due to the economic conditions of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
The annual refugee vulnerability assessment conducted by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the World Food Program and UNICEF shows that the number of Syrian refugee children who worked more than doubled between 2019 and 2021, reaching 27,825 male children.
It is estimated that children under the age of six are currently working on farms and in the streets, putting them at risk of serious burns and even death through the sale of illegal fuel, while many are exposed to abuse, violence and other threats.
