Arab news outlets report a recent increase in drug smuggling operations from Egypt's Sinai Peninsula into the Gaza Strip using drones.
According to a Hamas-affiliated source quoted by the Qatari daily Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, several drug-laden drones were recently downed by the IDF and crashed in areas populated by Gazans. He claimed that three Gazans were killed in such incidents over the past week.
A resident of the Al-Mawasi area recounted that after one drone crashed, a group of smugglers arrived to retrieve the remains. They reportedly opened fire at civilians trying to approach, including vehicles from Hamas’s own civil defense teams.
The smugglers allegedly recovered the shipment and withdrew. The drone was said to be capable of carrying up to 50 kilograms of narcotics.
