Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said he had no knowledge of an alleged scheme intended to obstruct investigations into corruption cases affecting his ruling Socialist Party.
Sánchez said he was “disappointed and furious” over the affair as investigations continue into members and associates of the party. Suspects are accused of attempting to influence administrative decisions and interfere with judicial proceedings or police operations that could have damaged the interests of the Socialist Party or the government.
“I never authorized anything like this, and I never had information or knowledge of anything that I would not have tolerated under any circumstances,” Sánchez told reporters upon arriving at a European Union summit in Montenegro.
The prime minister insisted that his government remains “clean” and said the Socialist Party’s legal team is reviewing all court documents connected to the case.
