Reuters, citing six informed sources, reports a development reflecting a significant shift in the US military posture in Syria: Washington is preparing to establish a military presence at an air base in Damascus.
According to the report, the move is intended to enable the implementation and monitoring of a security agreement brokered by the US between Syria and Israel.
The planned base would support oversight of areas in southern Syria expected to be included in the new security framework and could also facilitate related logistical and humanitarian arrangements.
