Syrian politician and businessman Firas Tlass said in a February 2, 2026 interview on Sky News Arabia that he was glad to see Hassan Nasrallah and Qasem Soleimani killed, arguing that anyone with Syrian blood on their hands deserves punishment.
Tlass said he had met Nasrallah multiple times and was surprised the Hezbollah leader failed to prevent Iran’s deep involvement in the Syrian war. He claimed Iran pursued a deliberate plan to destabilize and destroy Arab countries, not only Syria, and said he was thankful that Iran’s regional proxies were cut off — even if, as he put it, this was done by Benjamin Netanyahu rather than Arab states themselves. Tlass added that Iran’s remaining leadership would also eventually be removed.
He further alleged that the Syrian regime has long maintained ties with terrorist organizations worldwide, hosting them and later handing them over to their countries of origin when politically convenient. Most significantly, Tlass claimed that the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri was ordered by Iran, carried out in consultation with the Assad regime, and executed by Hezbollah acting as a contractor.
