New contract with EPIRUS to develop LEONIDAS system – advanced electromagnetic weapon
The US military continues to expand its efforts to deal with the threat of drones and UAVs, and allocates significant resources to the development of innovative weapons systems. Last week, a contract worth $43.5 million was signed with EPIRUS from Los Angeles, with the aim of developing a new generation of microwave systems capable of neutralizing large groups of drones using a single pulse of energy.
According to a report by WORLD DEFENSE NEWS, the EPIRUS microwave system was already activated under operational conditions during a military exercise held on April 30 this year in the Philippines.
The exercise, which was carried out in tropical environmental conditions, demonstrated the ability to neutralize several drones simultaneously. The exercise director, Captain Bray McCallum, stated that the field test confirmed the system's effectiveness and demonstrated its suitability for a variety of combat conditions.
