It’s Tuesday, September 16, and the IDF’s major offensive to capture Gaza City is underway.
This morning, the military said it has “begun destroying Hamas infrastructure in Gaza City,” adding that more than 40 percent of the city’s population has been evacuated.
Much has transpired since I first reported on August 4 that Jerusalem decided to occupy the entire Gaza Strip (which then changed to Gaza City), so let’s break down where we’re currently at.
When the security cabinet initially decided to conquer Gaza City, the idea was for one month of preparation, followed by one month of gaining operational control above the ground in the strip’s capital. That’s no longer the case, and the IDF now estimates that it will take until the end of 2025 to occupy the entire city and destroy Hamas’ infrastructure there.
