WATCH: IDF Begins Trials For New, Lighter Machine Gun

Israel has begun deploying the SIG Sauer MMG 338, a next-generation lightweight machine gun chambered in .338 Norma Magnum, in Gaza under a $95 million U.S.-backed deal, replacing decades-old heavy weapons on the battlefield.

The IDF is retiring its older weapons and equipping infantry units with a lighter, more powerful option.

While it doesn’t have an official Hebrew name, it’s nicknamed the MG338.

Why doesn’t Israel develop its own weapon and not get this from Germany? Israel is capable of making great equipment. I don’t understand.
