Centcom published a photo in a tweet stating that it had launched a B-1 Lancer bomber, accompanied by two American F-16s and a French Mirage.
On Wednesday, the Pentagon revealed the details of the airstrike on facilities belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards in eastern Syria, emphasizing that it was a "message to Iran." This is the second American attack in Syria in three days.
A Pentagon official said: "The facility attacked (in Syria) was a weapons depot and may have contained missiles, drones and ammunition that were used against our forces."
According to the US Air Force website, "The multi-role B-1 Lancer carries the largest conventional payload of guided and unguided weapons in the Air Force inventory, and forms the backbone of America's long-range bomber force. It can rapidly launch quantities of precise and imprecise weapons against any adversary, anywhere in the world, at any time."
Boeing's website reports that the B-1 Lancer bomber is a conventional, long-range, multi-mission supersonic bomber that has served the US Air Force since 1985.
