Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias unveiled a sweeping vision for the future of the Greek military, declaring that every soldier in the Greek Army will soon be trained to operate drones and counter-drone systems as Athens responds to what it sees as a growing military threat from Turkey.
Speaking about Turkey’s rapidly expanding drone capabilities, Dendias asked: “How do you deal with a country that produces enormous quantities of drones and has chosen to threaten Greece?”
According to the minister, Greece’s answer is the “Centaur” anti-drone system, developed domestically by the Greek defense industry. Dendias described it as one of the world’s most advanced counter-drone systems, emphasizing that it was “built by Greek hands and designed by Greek minds.”
He announced that from now on, all Greek conscripts will be trained in drone operations as well as anti-drone warfare. The move reflects a major shift in military thinking following the growing importance of drones in conflicts across the Middle East, Ukraine, and the Eastern Mediterranean.
