Turkish journalist and author Yusuf Serifoglu said that relations between Turkey and Russia have entered an unprecedented period of tension, marked by sharply worded Russian messages with clear military and security implications.
According to Serifoglu, these developments are expected to have a direct impact on the Syrian arena in the near future, yet have not received sufficient media attention despite their seriousness.
Former Turkish prime minister Ahmet Davutoglu placed the downing of the Russian drone near Ankara at the center of this escalation, describing it as a “strange and dangerous” incident.
According to the official account, the drone was part of Russian attacks targeting Ukraine but deviated from its course over the Black Sea, violated Turkish airspace, and continued flying south at low altitude toward the Ankara area before turning back. It was eventually identified and shot down by a Turkish F-16 fighter jet north of the capital.
