Last night, new data was released from a Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs survey conducted by Lazar Research, showing that 70% of Israelis oppose the establishment of a Palestinian state along the 1967 lines. Among Jewish Israelis, opposition rises to 80%.
The findings come as the UN Security Council is holding discussions on demilitarizing Gaza, eliminating Hamas, and deploying an international force. Meanwhile, Hamas announced that it will not disarm “under any circumstances” and continues issuing threats toward the US and President Trump.
According to a senior White House official, the current UN decision is actually a strategic gain for Israel because “the world now recognizes that if the demilitarization of Gaza fails — Israel will carry it out on its own.” However, the official stressed that the very discussion of a Palestinian state is “the real danger,” as it gives terrorist organizations a political pretext to continue justifying their violence.
Analysts assess that Israel will remain the dominant force shaping Gaza’s future, and that talk of Palestinian statehood is largely political maneuvering with no practical path forward.
