As part of its first meeting, the Committee decided to publish a call to the general public in order to hear and learn from its response to the issue. In addition, the Committee decided to contact the Competition Authority with a request that it act in accordance with its powers and turn in an extensive data request to the main suppliers and retailers in the food and toiletries sector in order to assist the committee’s work by analyzing the problems in the various segments of the value chain.

The members of the committee include, besides the chairman, the director general of the Ministry of Finance, Shlomi Heisler, the head of budgets, Yogev Gerdos, Chief Economist Dr. Shmuel Abramson, Director General of the Ministry of Economy, The Chairman of the National Economic Council Prof. Avi Simhon and the former public representative of the General Accounting CPA Michal Abadi Boinjo.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich: “Today, an important pillar is added to our fight against the cost of living – the centralization committee. As I have mentioned many times, from my first day in office I marked the fight against the cost of living as the most important issue and concentrated many resources and programs on it, with the centralization committee being one of the most important of them. 

For the first time ever, a committee will be established to gather all available data on all the major manufacturers, importers and retailers in the market.”
