Haifa Port was sold to an Israeli-Indian joint venture for NIS 4.2 billion (approximately $1.2 Billion)
The Haifa port was privatized and sold to the Sde Gadot Group of Chemical Terminals and the Indian company ADANI PORTS for NIS 4.1 billion, in the hope that the privatization of the port will improve competition in Israel's seaports.
The Indian company is the largest in India in the field of seaports and it continues to expand. Haifa Port will now compete with the new port in Haifa operated by a port company from Shanghai, China.
The privatization process of the Port of Haifa began in 2020 with the approval of the Ministerial Committee on Privatization. In 2013, the port of Eilat was privatized.
Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman praised the sale of the port of Haifa and said that "this is a great news for the country and the privatization of the port will increase competition in the ports, and as a result lower the cost of living in the country."
