A report says a temporary breach of FBI systems in New York exposed sensitive investigative files, including material connected to Jeffrey Epstein.
The FBI breach first reported in 2023 was not just another routine cyber incident. According to the report, the incident involved FBI computer systems in the New York field office and later raised serious concern because the hacker accessed sensitive files connected to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.
The breach reportedly began after an FBI special agent in a forensic lab mistakenly left a server exposed online while trying to operate the bureau’s complex systems. A foreign hacker, apparently an independent cybercriminal rather than a state actor, exploited the weakness and entered the server.
The unusual twist is that the hacker reportedly did not initially realize he had accessed FBI systems. After seeing disturbing investigative material, he left a note on the agent’s desktop warning that the network was exposed and even threatened to report him to the authorities. The FBI discovered the note the next morning and contained the incident.
