Russian Major General Ivan Popov: "I was fired after I told what was really happening on the front"

A Russian general reported that he was removed from his post after he told the heads of the Russian military about the difficult situation on the Ukrainian front.

According to Radio Free Europe on Thursday, July 13, Major General Ivan Popov, commander of the Russian Army's 58th Troop, said that after he complained to Valery Gerasimov, the Army's Chief of General Staff, about the plight of Russian soldiers in Ukraine, he was "immediately" fired.

The 58th Corps, under the command of Ivan Popov, is now fighting in the Zaporizhia region of Ukraine.

Major General Ivan Popov, in an audio message published by a Russian member of parliament, Andrey Gorolev, candidly told what was happening on the front and what caused the mass death of Russian soldiers on the battlefield, and this caused the Russian Minister of Defense, Sergei Shoigu, to fire him "within a day".

In this message, Popov says: "In front of the dead soldiers, I felt ashamed that I continued to lie and raised all the problems in front of the army commander."

He added: "The Ukrainian army failed to break our ranks at the front, but our chief of staff stabbed us in the back and sacrificed the army at the most difficult and serious moment."
